Ellen Ross Belfer

ELLEN ROSS BELFER, OF COUNSEL AT LEÓN COSGROVE LLP, FOCUSES HER PRACTICE ON COMPLEX COMMERCIAL LITIGATION IN FEDERAL AND STATE COURTS NATIONWIDE.

Ms. Belfer has extensive experience in all types of complex commercial disputes, including contract disputes, class actions, actions under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), business torts, fiduciary duty, fraud, and product liability. She started her legal career as a federal law clerk to the Hon. Peter T. Fay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. After her clerkship, she practiced commercial litigation at Hunton & Williams in Miami.

In addition to her substantial litigation experience and high-level background in the federal and state court appellate systems, Ms. Belfer was a Professor of Legal Writing at the University of Miami School of Law. As a member of the full-time law faculty, she taught legal communication and research skills, utilizing substantive materials from various subject areas, including contracts, employment law, intellectual property, and U.S. Constitutional law.  Ms. Belfer also developed and taught courses on civil litigation discovery and electronic discovery and regularly presented at conferences related to her teaching.

Represented major international alcohol beverage manufacturer and distributor in RICO action filed by a foreign sovereign alleging a money laundering and smuggling scheme.

Defended cruise line in a breach of contract suit brought by a former vendor.
