Jeremy L. Kahn

JEREMY L. KAHN IS A PARTNER AT LEÓN COSGROVE LLP WHO FOCUSES HIS PRACTICE ON COMMERCIAL LITIGATION.

Jeremy Kahn’s commercial litigation and appellate practice encompasses, in addition to complex business disputes, insurance-related matters in which he represents  policyholders and other claimants in first-party, general liability, errors & omissions (“E&O”), and directors & officers’ (“D&O”) matters, as well as broker-negligence matters. His versatility with class actions, usually involving allegations of deceptive business practices, allows him to counsel both plaintiffs and defendants.

Mr. Kahn recently shared in two significant victories for León Cosgrove in which he played key roles. In one, an appellate court reaffirmed the perpetual settlement payments required by a 1997 landmark settlement between R.J. Reynolds and the State of Florida that compensates the state for smoking-related health care costs. Also, Mr. Kahn helped make new law in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, where a panel vacated a bar order in a receivership stemming from a Ponzi scheme.

Mr. Kahn began his legal career at an insurance-focused litigation boutique in Miami, where he represented healthcare providers, bankruptcy trustees, and individual and corporate policyholders in disputes with insurance companies. Among others, Mr. Kahn represented a nationally-recognized substance-abuse treatment facility in a multimillion dollar under-reimbursement suit against several major health insurers–as well as the bankruptcy trustee for the estate of an investment company that lost millions in Florida’s largest Ponzi scheme against that investment company’s crime insurers. Mr. Kahn then served as a law clerk to the Hon. Kenneth A. Marra of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Mr. Kahn earned his J.D. (summa cum laude; Order of the Coif) from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as an Executive Editor of the Law Review and was a member of both the Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board and the University of Miami Trial Team. Additionally, he participated in the Federal Appellate Clinic and drafted briefs on behalf of indigent criminal defendants in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, as well as two petitions for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court. He also served as a legal intern in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami, and as a judicial extern to the Hon. Marcia G. Cooke of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
